Reflection #4

What?
Our class this week learned about UENs. We learned how to set up our own UEN account and how to use. There is so much to know about UEN so our class is taking this week and next week to learn about them.

So What?
UEN is an awesome tool for teachers to use. Many teachers have come together and put their lesson plans into this website. Its neat because teachers can use it for planning lessons, learning games, and much more. This will be such a great tool for me as a teacher to help me get ideas on lessons that I will be preparing. There is also the great tool that you can upload any informational video for your classroom just by this website.

I know that I will use UEN alot in the future when I am a teacher. I will also use this website for when I am substituting or helping out in a classroom. When I was speaking with my collegues I found out they too were excited about this neat tool. I know that I will use this tool a lot and that they will as well.

Now What?
I know that I will apply this tool a lot into my teaching when I am a teacher. If I am struggling on coming up with lesson plans I know that I will have this great tool to turn to. My students will be able to use this awesome tool in the classroom as well. I think they will really like this website and all the games it has to offer. I will most likely have the students play these games once they have completed everything they needed to get done or just for fun.

I am really excited about this tool and I know that the department I work with will most likely like it as well. As a team we will be able to work together and decide what tools we like best and what lesson plans have been the most effective for us as teachers. I can't wait to use this UEN.

Video Reflection
This week we watched President Obama's Speech to Children. This video was very inspirational to me. It's true that we are what we learn. Getting an education really is key for getting the future of your dreams. I know that Obama's speech must have touched many individuals and just proved to many how important education is.

Reflection #3

What?

Our class on Thursday learned about more options that gmail has to offer. Last week we learned about gmail documents and this time in class we had the opportunity to learn about gmail spreadsheets and presentations. These are great tools that can help when we are teaching our own class. As a class we were asked to work together as groups to create our own presentation of classroom rules. This will give us the opportunity to get a feel of how to work with gmail presentations and become more familiar with it.

So What?

As a student this comes in handy because not only can I now use these programs in my classes but I can also use them in the future when I am a teacher. It's great to be learning about different technology now so that I know what is out there and available to me. There is so much technology that I think it would be an overload if I were to try and learn all these different programs at once.

Learning about gmail and all it has to offer amazes me. I never knew that these programs even existed. I have spoken with collegues that are in the same class with me and they too have never used these programs before. I know that many of us will now use gmail documents and presentations in our own classes at UVU.

Now What?

Spreadsheets come in handy in many different ways. One can use spreadsheets to count their till at the end of the night or to caculate their bills. Many individuals can even use spreadsheets in a teaching setting. I know that I for one will use spreadsheets when it comes to making a seating chart. This will make it easier for me as a teacher to take roll. The great thing about using spreadsheets on gmail is that it is easy to access and not as complicated as other programs can sometimes be.

Presentations is a program that allows for you to create slides for when you are presenting to the class or to even a group of people. This program is set up very well on gmail and allows for you to have many different options while creating your slides. I will use this when I am lecturing to my class to make it more interesting for the students so that they have something to look at. I am a visual learner myself so I am sure that I will make many slides to explain concepts that I am teaching.

Video Reflection

This week we watched the video I Am What I Learn. I liked this video because it motivates you to continue to work hard on getting your degree. It might be tough right now, but it will be worth it in the long run. Having a degree is really nice because you will always have something to fall back on and degree gets you closer to your dream career.

Reflection #2

In class on Thursday we learned about all the benefits of using Gmail. It offers a lot of things I had not realized. They have their own documents similar to Microsoft word, a calendar, and much more.

I will use Gmail frequently when I am a teacher. There are a lot of things you can incorporate into the class while you are teaching. For example, you can use word document in GMail for when you send a newsletter to the parents so they are aware of what their child is learning. This will help to save paper, and keep the parents constantly aware of their child's progress.

The calendar on GMail offers a lot of different options. You can set particular calendars for different groups. Another feature the calendar offers is a text message sent to a teachers phone fifteen minutes before an event as a reminder. This will help with teaching to remind teachers of appoints they have with parents.

There are many benefits from using technology in your classroom. A teacher has many responsibilities, and with the help of GMail and other sources of technology it can make the teacher more proficient within her classroom. I for one will be using all the technology that is available to teachers.

Reflection #1

My Dream Job
My dream job would be to teach in a little town where you know the majority of the people in the area. I want my students to be able to choose which outfit they want to wear instead of having to wear uniforms. This gives the students the opportunity to learn what type of clothes they like to wear. I hope the school I work at will get enough funds to be able to get all the supplies the students need.
As a teacher I want to really involve the parents to come help out in class when they can and get the parents really involved so that they know what is going on within their childs classroom and what their child is being taught. I hope to have a good friendship with all the parents. I also know that I will get a huge help with my other co-workers. They will help in times of when I don't necessarily know how to handle a situation or to get ideas on how to teach a certain subject. I want to be able to teach at a school where I love all the people that work there and especially the teachers in the grade I teach. I hope to work with a great principle as well.
I want my classroom to be filled with color but not to much that it is overpowering. I want enough color and posters on the walls that the classroom has a fun setting. On one side of the wall I will hang up the students work. The students notice this and really have fun pointing out where their paper is on the wall and it always makes the students want to do an even better job on the assignment. I also want to use new technology when I teach. On the Wii I know there are alot of fun games that deal with math that would really get the students attention and help them learn at the same time.
In my classroom I want to have plants by the windows and maybe even a class pet such as a fish. This really gets the students excited and helps them to learn about animals and plants. I want my classroom to be decorated and have a good feel that when the kids come into my class they will feel almost as if they were home.
